What to Watch - November 4, 2020
In which we wonder about counties in states we have never visited...
I was out of town all weekend and just got back last night. Did I miss anything? (Jokes! It’s all on fire!) And on that note:
Wednesday - November 4
This is a first. Zero premieres or returning shows of note on a Wednesday.
Instead, please enjoy this amusing gif of our dog, Lucky.
Thursday - November
Few premieres today. Please enjoy this GIF of a kitten sleeping.
CBS / B Positive, S1. Chuck Lorre's latest sitcom involves a very ill man in need of a kidney donation who gets one from a woman he used to date. I want to make fun of this as possibly awful but the cast is kind of awesome? Includes Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch, as well as American Crime Story's Annaleigh Ashford, Kether Donohue (You're the Worst), and - order up - Linda Lavin (Alice).
HBO Max / Two Weeks to Live (limited series). Arya who? Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) stars as a young woman who has her own to-do list, thank you, and it starts with doing all the things her mother, a master doomsday prepper, won't let her do, like 'go to a pub,' which is exactly what she does -- and where she falls for a prank and now she thinks that the world is going to end by nuclear annihilation in two weeks. This, of course, rather re-prioritizes a few things on the list. Begone, 'go to a vegan restaurant,' and hello, 'avenge my father's murder'! Anyhoo, a darkly comic chaos ensues putting this squarely in the must-watch sights of fans of Killing Eve and End of the F***ingWorld. And Fleabag, of course, as her mother is played brilliantly by Sian Clifford. Already aired in the UK on Sky, it's gotten positive reviews, especially for Williams' performance. Trailer here.
Returning - CBS, Mom and Young Sheldon; Peacock, Save Me (originally aired on Starz in the US); Sundance Now, Riviera (notably, the entire first season is available for free now on Apple TV)
Friday - November 6
Really, no premieres, though I did find a straight-to-streaming movie that was very well-reviewed. It seemed a little stressful so in the meantime please enjoy this GIF of a dog losing a slice of pizza in the lights.
Saturday - November 7
HBO / Rock and Rock Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (special). It's a taped performance of some of this year's inductees including The Doobie Brothers, Whitney Houston, Depeche Mode, NIN, and the Notorious B.I.G. It's a lot, so please enjoy this GIF of a dog jumping into a pile of leaves.
Sunday - November 8
Showtime / Moonbase 8, S1. What a delightful romp! Those cuckoo cats Fred Armisen (Los Espookys) and John C. Reilly (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) star as astronauts training in Arizona at a NASA space simulator. Please enjoy this GIF of a cat in space. There were almost too many from which to choose but I think I made the right decision.
Returning - CBS, NCIS: Los Angeles and New Orleans (what a time to be alive, right?)
Monday - November 9
HBO / Industry, S1. This drama co-produced by Girls' Lena Dunham follows a group of recent college grads who compete for jobs at a major London investment bank. Extremely tense trailer here.
Tuesday - November 10
Hulu / A Teacher (miniseries). This ten-episode series follows a young high school teacher in Texas (Kate Mara, My Days of Mercy) who has an affair with one of her students. Trailer here. (And you're right: this is NOT the time for a humorous GIF.)
In Other News…
Slow news week. I mean, Netflix raised their prices but really, I think we have other things to think about. Time for some self-care, maybe?
See you next week!
